Rerooted

This comic was created after my one-month visit to the Philippines as part of my DYCP project. During my time there, I created a mini-comic for a collaborative zine I made with Jude as part of our practice as Studio Haluhalo. Once I returned to England, I developed the mini-comic into a full colored zine.

I was inspired by the idea of being "Rerooted" as a metaphor for diaspora and immigrant experience. It narrates my story, my mixed upbringing and the feelings I had during this time, and how my experiences has shaped my views towards my identity today. Just as we were inspired by the Kalachuchi flower, some of the illustrations here were inspired by other native Filipino flowers.
